Yes, NY has some fantastic hiking, especially in the Adirondacks! Be careful though, I recently posted in a hiking forum about my Father's Day hike up the 4700 ft high Mt Colden near Lake Placid with our twin daughters, using the steeper southwest approach. I was promptly attacked for dragging "little children" along on such a dangerous hike. Apparently the attackers completely missed the part of my post where I mentioned that our daughters are 46 years old and veteran High Peak hikers, and I'm 71... :B
