I suggest you do an internet search on light pollution. It is a big problem. There are only a handful of places in North America where you can see the night sky as your ancestors saw it.
Many manufacturers are now developing street lighting and commercial lighting that minimizes light pollution. It is a valid issue.
Anyone that has never been far enough into the wilderness to see the night sky is really missing out. You cannot see the night sky within fifty miles of a city.
We keep our lighting to a minimum, turn it on and off as needed. When boondocking we have a single amber LED light that is under the trailer at the steps. We will leave it on when away from the campsite to help in finding our way back. People that aren't accustomed to real darkness would be amazed at how visible one tiny light is in the darkness.
