You also have the choice to ask the other guy, politely, if he minds changing his behavior. I totally agree with you that nobody has the right to demand anything of the others though they can certainly ask. If someone asks politely and the other person refuses, it says a lot more about the other person.
If you* are rarely asked to stop doing something, the asker probably has too high of standards though it shouldn't be too much skin off your nose to stop anyway for the sake of being civil. If you find yourself being asked frequently, you might consider changing your habits.
* 'you' doesn't mean you personally :)
