Outdoor "decorative" lighting RANT!

Ok, I have four solar lights that I put out near the door to light a pathway in and out to walk the dog. I've got some outside lights that we burn for a gathering. BUT some people are over the top.

Here is the reason for the rant. We were camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park outside Fountain Hills, AZ. Sure it is just over the hill from Scottsdale and the smogbowl, but it does have a nice night sky. Nothing like Ft. Davis or Natural Bridges, but still a nice sky.

This guy pulls in and lines his campsite in white ground lights. This guy's slides have "alien" lights under them and on his dash that change colors from red, to green, to blue... Ok, this is not a real problem as long as he is outside. But this guy let them run all night long. It reminded me of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."

So, after three nights, I put a sticky note on his windshield while walking the dog at 5 a.m. It read, "Do you have any idea how obnoxious your lights are? Not to mention the light pollution or waste of energy. The least you could do is put your lights on a timer."

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I guess my feeling is it could always be worse. as long as he is not being loud and obnoxious and they do not keep you awake at night and if they do pull your blinds. I am for lights around the rv makes it safer and less likely to have things borrowed and never returned. I guess if it is a real problem you could always move. Sorry but that is the way I feel. He is paying just like you are.

Did you turn off your camp fire and JD bottle?

No campfires. Wife can't take the smoke. JD doesn't glow in the dark.

    OP
  • Just another case of someone who goes camping to get away from it all, but they're afraid of the dark.

It's probably the same people who will boondock right beside you when there's acres of open area available.

Like rvten said, some people live in the "it's all about me world".
  • Motto worry. That guy lives in the ME only world. I do not even carry extra outside lights anymore.
