Outdoor sink drain

I'm going to post here too, as I did in Fifth Wheel forum and got no response. We have a 2019 KZ Durango fifth wheel with out door sink and stove. the sink drain has a line that runs under the rv and drains to the ground. There is a fitting there to attach a garden hose and run the drain water away from the camper. That fitting has a spring check valve in it for some reason? I attached a garden hose and the sink won't drain. I have to push the check valve in at the fitting under the camper to get it to drain. I wedged it open with a stick this past weekend for it to work. Found another KZ durango fifth wheel in our campground that was a year older and it does not have that check valve in there. Any idea what the purpose of that valve is? And is there a special hose that attaches to that fitting that will push in the check valve as I screw it on? Thanks.

We only used the sink to wash our hands with biodegradeable soap.

I would say you are trying to drain through a flushing connection.
RVs normally drain the grey water through a standard 3 inch drain system.

Maybe? I'll have to take a closer look. If I ran a cup or two of water in the outdoor sink, it would back up into the sink. The only way to drain it would be to open that valve and push in the check valve then that little bit of water would drain out. Maybe they put the wrong fitting on there though, as I'm pretty certain during our walk through the guy told us to hook a hose up to that drain and run it away from the camper. If it is a flush connection, then my sink is plugged or not draining properly.

  • It's possibly so someone can't accidentally hook the hose to a faucet and run water back up through the sink.

If there is an owner's manual with your 5th wheel, you might check it. Those are pretty sketchy sometimes, but there's a chance the info might be in it.
