If you make a window, it wouldn't need to be huge, and is easily sealed back up with something like Gorilla Tape. The key is knowing where to make the cut. In some cases you can loosen a few screws along the side of covering, to peek in, using a good light, to verify location.

I did take off some of the screws, but mostly from the very back. I wasn't able to see much from there.
Going from the fill spot on the outside, any idea how long the fill tubes usually are before they hit the tank?
Seems like my window would need to be decently big to 1) see the spot and 2) be able to reach it to tighten or secure into place.
