Over filling fresh water

Has anyone run into an issue where you overfill your freshwater tank and it's ended up leaking from the undercarriage? I just filled mine up for the first time. Left for a short drive and now I have leaking near the frame and belly.

I'm praying that it's not the tank itself but rather an issue of me having overfilled. Possibly leading to water getting into other areas.

An overfill tube aside from one that may be immediately next to the fill spot? I have the small screened one that's right where I fill up. No idea if there is a secondary one, hidden underneath.

Any idea on how to access this? I'm nervous about tearing into things but am now left wondering where the problem might be.

  • I should clarify. I didn't drive with the trailer. It's just sitting in the driveway. It's a 2015 Coachmen Apex if that matters.
  • With some water tanks the fill tube and the overfill tube are not high enough above the tank. The water ends up sloshing up the tubes when you drive. I had that issue with a 27 foot motorhome. I put a plastic hose into a half gallon water bottle and plugged the other end into the fill line and the overfill line. Within a half mile and a full tank of water I had water in both bottles. The fill tube was by far the worst. I ended up putting in a full plug on the fill tube, and kept the hose into the bottle for the other line with ability for air to breathe off, but the sloshing remained a problem unless I only filled to 2/3 of a tank.
  • Most all tanks have a over flow vent this lets the air out as you put the water in. When the tank gets full it will run out of this vent. Then when you drive depending on where the vent is it will run out also some times depending on vent location it will set up a siphon effect and partially drain the tank.

Should we guess what kind of rv you have?

Our Toyhauler would just come out the air release when going around corners if it was to full.
