Contrary to popular belief the world does not revolve around the US. There are many vehicles very common around the rest of the world unseen on US roads. Diesel engines are common in the smallest of Asian trucks. The VW van, never common in the US, is far from gone around the world.
The trash truck reference was made simply because a very strong base frame & engine is needed if you are going to do some serious world exploring. A blingey wannabe is not going to cut it.
Not for me. I like my US mushmobile & the rolling condo behind it. There is a seat for every backside.
