For the record, I was NOT nitpicking. I was seriously asking why it would matter that it's a "thing" for you to decide to do it.
And, since you have now posted your rules on what overlanding is, who made you the one to decide. I know people who have hitchhiked, hiked, biked, and driven across the Americas. How are their travels any different than the person in a beat up van/RV? They are doing exactly what you claim the overlanders are doing - just not in an RV.
