While those of you claiming that it is not a "new" thing this is technically correct. It has been very popular in Europe for a long time. And here in the US there have been over the years a very few hardy explorer types who did ignore the naysayers among them and set out on trans continental journeys with all kinds of vehicles.
But this is not the same thing I wrote about. And a careful reading of my op would show that what I said was this: while Overlanding has been popular in Europe for quite awhile for the average person to do it is only NOW becoming much much more popular HERE.
While there have been makers of expedition vehicles and outfitters in Europe for a long time it is only recently that the US has seen the beginnings of a home grown manufacturers base for Both specialized expedition vehicles and equipment. I am sorry but that qualifies as NEW to me. As it never existed before.
No insult was intended to Toedtoes. Only exasperation. Why the focus on whether it is new or not seems to me completely false. By any measure, either the manufacturing, the media devoted to it, the rallies and shows and the number of people who have engaged in this activity has mushroomed in the last ten years. That should be self evident as a marker of something new gaining in popularity.

I cant help but wonder why anyone who is interested in RV's, their systems and the lifestyle it can afford one wouldn't be interested in these vehicles and maybe even overlanding . It's not for everyone for sure but that doesn't mean one can't appreciate great equipment and vehicles.
I think some "old timers" just feel a bit threatened by anything new on the horizon in the RV world. At least it seems so from some posts on this site any time anything new is put out there.
But just to set the record straight nowhere in my original post did I claim it was "NEW". That was another posters miquoting of what I said. But in point of fact it is new in the US as an alternative type of RV'ing by just everyday folks.
