Thanks for all your responses, they've been helpful. Am I allowed to disconnect at the options I DO have for overnight stay? I understand it's not the safest thing to do but im asking it of curiosity.
Here's the story, I am 30 yrs old woman interested in living in my RV with my dog. My questions are simply to be informed, not necessarily because I WANT to do it. I clearly want to remain safe, remain within the regulations, and have comfort for my other half (my dog). However, I am still working a full time job that I have to report to every day and id like to keep away from having to park and connect at an RV Park as much as possible. .. however, I do understand, with my dog, it will probably be my only option to park and connect somewhere so I can leave him in an air conditioned unit.
Id like to know though, if at some point im having trouble financially and I cannot afford the rates offered by an RV park, how in control am I of that where I can comfortably and safely park it somewhere elsr for a couple days and actually leave it while I complete my work day. Any ideas?
We now understand your dilemma. It will be difficult to keep the rig cool with AC without being hooked up which will of course will cost you.
If you will be in one area long enough I would consider finding a seasonal site or maybe a city park with facilities. In our state there are many city parks with a few hook-ups that don't have the rate of a full RV park.
Therefore it all depends on where you are and what time of year. If you'll be traveling all across the country, moving a lot the answers to those questions will vary greatly.
If you have a job in one location your options will be limited to what is available in your area. All you can do is research.
Most places that allow overnight boondocking will allow unhooking but they will only allow "overnight" parking for one night. If you attempt to leave the rig all day, return later and stay another night...in most cases that will be considered inappropriate. It is then up to that company who may have your rig towed.
In most municipalities I'd guess boondocking along any public street will be out of the question in the manner you need.
Some of the resources given by other posters may help your situation.
As far as safe...one can never know what is completely safe. There can be difficulties even in an RV park.
One option we used one time was the church parking lot (brother-in laws church) but only after we talked to them and they agreed to a 2 day boondock stay. Some VFW & Am. Legion clubs have power connections and allow club members to stay for a nomial fee. If you are in dire need I'd consider talking to them about a deal to stay.
The only option folks who live in an RV have for pets is to leave them inside. Every RV park we've been to requires pets not be left outside alone for any amount of time. And if the dog barks a lot in the RV...the park may get complaints from others so...it will all depend on how your dog behaves when left alone.
It sounds like you have a challenge ahead of you and I pray you will indeed be safe and find options that will work for you. good luck
