P_C or Laptop

Another laptops only person here, and I've found them to be extremely durable. I don't buy a specific brand but look for the best features for price.

When I read the title, I thought the OP was asking about use in the RV. I thought, 'OMG, people pack a desktop?!?'

I'm another laptops-only person. No need for a big monitor or a separate keyboard.

Define durable.

No, really, not being a wise guy. What hazards/uses/wear issues are you seeking to avoid?

Have had the same Dell desktop with a 23" monitor for 12 of the 14 years we've been fulltiming and have run that puppy from Alaska to Central America and back again twice. Typing on it now. Still running XP. In the interim, we've had to replace 2 laptops (one a Compaq and the other an Asus.

I'm a firm believer in not fixing something that ain't broke!

I'd also go with a laptop. For long term use, I prefer a wireless external keyboard/mouse and a 24" HD monitor for comfort. To get more bang for your buck, consider looking into Dell's factory outlet. They have both new and refurbished units that are much cheaper than regular retail.

We've gotten 2 refurbished units from them and would do it again. This typically means the unit failed final testing and it had to circle back for repairs - not that someone used it and returned it.

I have an all in one PC. It basically has the components of a laptop built into the monitor stand.

We just replaced our old PC with an HP "All in One" model. It doesn't have the "tower" that takes up so much space. Ours has a 19" screen. If you do not require one for traveling you may want to check them out. Bought ours at W-Mart on sale.

An alternative?
Get a nice laptop, a desktop screen (as large as you feel you need)
Get a bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
Connect them with the laptop safely stored out of the way and you have the best of all worlds.
