P_C or Laptop

Something to think about on the Laptop is getting one with a 17" screen.

I didn't even know they still made PC's anymore.

Just make sure you can hook it up to the TV, what ever you get. WE use both.

If you are not using it for work and are mostly checking e-mail and surfing the net a notebook/tablet will do. If you are a gamer then you will likely want a game console. I use a desktop w/36in TV as my monitor and a wireless mouse keyboard to sit in the recliner and surf.

For travel we take the laptop and for the house we have 4 old Desktops (2 Dells and two HP's) that just keep on working. Sometimes I wish one would break down to give me an excuse to get something more modern.

My wife likes her smartphone, Ipad, notebook, tablet and laptop to stay in touch with her sisters, nieces, etc.-yes she has all 5 and uses each one in different situations/rooms of the house or RV. She always has the phone and one other device with her--I do not know why she just does.

I stay DISCONNECTED unless I am at my desktop.

BTW I like the refurbished Dells on amazon.

I don't know that laptops are necessarily more durable than desktops, but they aren't too fragile, particularly if you get well-built ones. There is a big range available, and some of the cheap ones are really cheaply constructed (physically speaking).

Laptops in my experience typically don't last as long as desktops before they break, but a lot of that has to do with the fact that they're moved around and manhandled a whole lot more frequently than the desktop computers. Plugging a nice big monitor into a laptop for desktop use is certainly practical and reasonable.

Quite a few years back I bought a laptop to take with us travelling. It quickly replaced the desktop we have. In fact, the desktop is retired since it was an XP machine.

Worked in computer field since 1963. Worked for major manufacturer for 20+ years. Then started my own company, we did anything needed for small businesses. Sold it 12 years ago and retired. I use nothing but a laptop / notebook anymore. They generally have the capability of a desktop or more. They are compact and very rugged.

I would recommend purchasing a major brand. My favorites are HP or Dell. The reason is if you should need maintenance, they can and will be abe to provide needed service and support! This is very important with a laptop.

if you travel a PC is the answer. lots out there for under $500 that will do whatever you want it to do.

Haven't had a desktop in years. Get a good notebook (used to be called laptops, but are not really designed to be used in a lap) and you have the best of both worlds.

Durable, yes. And smaller with fewer pieces....
