I bought a new Ram 1500 in 2011 that came with Goodyear Wrangler HP tires. The tires are P275/60R20 and I have only 15k miles on them. My question has to do with the "P" designation which I understand...

You have the same truck that I do, only two years newer. I replaced the Goodyear OEM tires at 39K due to wear. Replaced them with Michelin "P" tires.
LT tires for 20" rims are hard to find and get VERY expensive if you do find them. The "new" tires now have over over 54K on them and still have another good 10K left before I will need to replace them. I tow a car hauler and have no problem towing with the "P" tires. The 20" rims will lower your towing capacity slightly but not enough to cause concern.
