Pads for under Leveling Jacks?

We purchased a Thor Palazzo 33.2 (our first RV) and will soon begin a 1 year sight-seeing trip of the US spending only 1 or maybe 2 nights before moving on to the next location. We have been researching extensively so that sight-seeing & travel time is not lost due to unexpected repairs or maintenance.

Recently Hubby has heard that pads under leveling jacks are sometimes required. We expect to mostly stay at private campgrounds or state & national parks. Does anyone have information about how often we may encounter this situation?

Appreciate any & all assistance!

  • Sometimes if you are on grass or muddy ground, the legs can sink in. A pad underneath helps reduce this.

We just use some small chunks of 2x6 or 2x8.

Not critical but it does keep the metal out of the water and mud a bit.
  • I use the yellow Lynx levelers. Sometimes I stack them higher under certain jacks if the campsite is very unlevel. I don't want my jacks extending too too far. Even if not required by the campground, I would use them for your own benefit as stated in the other posts....on soft ground and on hot asphalt. I have friends whose jacks actually stuck to hot asphalt. Had to find a neighbor RVer with a crowbar to release them.
  • lynx levelers work best for the wheels, interlocking open web design
i bent a couple of them under the Safari jacks

the flat thick plate type are Better , for going under hydraulic leveling jacks

none are usually needed under paved parking sites, except for asphalt in HOT weather

grass or gravel, then it having something under the jack to spread the weight helps avoid sinking in
  • We have been to several rv parks that require them.
We like to use them in sandy areas, and areas with deeper gravel.
Doesn’t hurt to purchase them, and they don’t take up alot of room. We got ours on Amazon for less than 20.00 for a 4 pack.

Edit... We use the Camco 6 and a half by 9 inch jack pads. Not sure how large your leveling jack feet are.
  • I use them all the time, reduces the distance to crank down the "stabilizer" jacks. I use pieces of 2X8, but if weight and space are a concern, buy the yellow Lynx levelers sold at Walmart, light weight and come in a zip-up case. Never parked anywhere that they were required though.......
  • Depends on the ground underneath your RV. I use plastic pads under my stabilizing scissor jacks almost all the time. Seems you’re planning a gogo trip. Consider slowing it down and really see this great country one region at a time is my suggestion.
