Park Model Questions

There are two different park models, one has a black water tank, grey water tank and potable water thank, a refrigerator that runs on propane and 120 volts as well as the water heater these units are more movable than the second type, all that is needed is to unhook water, sewer, water, hook up a tow vehicle and go.

The second park model is a more permanent unit, constructed more like a house as opposed to a towing trailer, they are towed to the site and set up on jacks, with skirting have no tanks, residential toilet, house fridge, house stove, and normally do not move for many years.

I helped my kids buy a park model a few years ago. He is a state park ranger and was required to live on the park. He knew he would eventually be transferred so it seemed like a good idea. The SP provided full hook-ups (septic tank, power pole, etc). They moved it once at that park - to another site-and had it set up for about $500. Later they had it moved about 350 miles to another park for $800. It was made by Keystone and served them well for five years but was showing wear. When they bought a house they "played it forward" and almost gave it away to another park ranger. I saw it last week and it is doing fine. It definitely met their needs at the time. lizzie

AFAIK if it is over 400 sq.ft. it is NOT a park model.

Park Model is completely out of the question for what I might want to do.

Many/most RV parks in Florida that allow park models require a professional set up, doing a permanent connection to the sewer, water and electrical connections. Plus they require all park models to be skirted. I suspect to have a park model delivered to a park by the dealer and set up, you could be looking at $1,000 to $1,500 each time. Then to move it would be about the same. Many park models are wide enough to require a permit to move them on public roads, not something most of us would want to try with our pickups.

My wife and I considered buying a park model when we were full timing in our Class A motor home. Went up to Ocala, FL where several factories build them. But we ended up buying a double wide, in Homosassa FL, already set up in a park for the same money and got more room, an extra bedroom, etc.
Mobility, to me would be the main difference to me in a fifth wheel over a park model. More room, full sized appliances and bath room, would be the strong point of a park model. A fifth wheel allows you to move if you get hit with a large increase in lot rent, to a different campground, in a park model, you basically just have to grin and pay the increase.

there are two types of "park models". one is basically a large TT maybe without some tanks, etc. the other is more like a stick built cabin, regular peaked shingled roof, etc.

I towed my 38' keystone hornet park model home and back to our CG for 3 yrs.(seasonal site). My neighbor has done the same with his 40' Layton park model for several years.
Mine had fresh water and black tanks, whils his only has a black tank.
I've see several weekenders each yr come into the CG towing park models.

I wouldn't want to drag it around every weekend tho.

I have had 2 park models a 40ft and a 44ft, mine both had black and grey tanks. Many RV parks require that in my area. There is no 12 volt power and no water holding tank, in mine. They can be towed by a 1 ton truck, but as stated not often. There are 12 wide and 8'6 park models, the smaller one is easier to tow if needed

Park models are intended to be bought and placed on a lot. They are not set up to move around because they usually do not have trucks under neath them. And are very costly to move. When you are done with living in one people usually sell them from where they are parked.
