parking facilities not required near New York City

I want to stop near NYC at the end of April of this year. I have checked RV parks and they are quite expensive. I really only want to park and take public transport to stay downtown for 2 or 3 nights. Does anyone have experience at doing this?
  • Park at the off site parking at the various airports. Secure, safe and easy transportation into the city.
  • JFK long term parking $14.95 per day, shuttle to lower Manhattan $23 for first person, $12.00 for second person. Sometimes you will find cabbies that will beat this rate depending on how busy the time is. Last time we were there, we got a cab for $25 for two of us in the middle of the afternoon. I would check the parking service for ability to accommodate and RV.

That maybe the rate for a car but 14.95 for a motor home seems cheap!
  • You had better check the sites for off airport parking before you come. I dont know if they will accomadate a motor home. Go to the JFK airport website and then follow the links to off site parking.
  • now that I'm thinking about it. Better do your homework,. It might be cheaper to stay in New Jersey in your MH and then travel into the city then parking your rig and getting a hotel.

It's been awhile - but stayed in NJ. Campground had on-site security.
Express bus stopped right in front - went direct to Transit Authority
    terminal in NYC.
IIRC took about 30-45 min each way. Price was right, clean and efficient.

Investigate all your options - call campgrounds in NJ, ask questions.

    .
  • Check out Metro North train stops ,you can pick a departure area, then find a campground nearby. Such as Middletown NY. might be able park a truck camper at parking lot and pay if its small rig,or else you probably need a CG.
