Parking in tight spot in driveway

Trailer Valet XL
Has anyone ever used one of these? I've got a 20' trailer that weighs 4500lbs and 2 narrow 90 degree turns in my driveway. Truck and trailer hooked together physically won't make the turns so I have to get something.

I have a John Deere mower-tractor -- 700 series. I wanted to put the ball on the back of the mower (like I did on my smaller 100 series John Deere) Unfortunately, the metal the ball sits on is too soft. The weight of the trailer began to bend the frame. Luckly I had not put full weight on the mower, so no damage done. My 100 series tows my utility trailer just fine (5x8 foot trailer), but it's not got enough 'umph' to move the trailer (I tried). It's support is much stronger. The 100 is a belt driven drive, the 700 is a gear driven drive. On the 100, the belt just can't move it.

So .... moral of the story .... if you're going to use a lawn mower (which may work), be certain the weight of the trailer is not too much for the strength of the mower frame!

  • That's the way we originally parked it by hand. It was such a pita that I gotta get something easier.
  • If the driveway is level two persons can move the unit, with the tow dolly one person steers the other person turns one tire by hand by pushing down on the tire in the direction of travel and resets the chock as the trailer moves I recommend using gloves, make a switch that actuates the trailer brakes for more control and safety our switch was normally closed (trailer brakes on) and open when pressed (brakes off) that way the brakes were on until the switch was pushed by the person steering, we used to move the incident command trailers and the horse trailer this way and our parking lot was not level, it sloped for drainage.

When I had a tow dolly, I used one of these dolly dollies. - $58.95

It worked OK considering the tow dolly was not too heavy for me to pull/push by hand. For a 4500 pound trailer, I don't think you will be able to move it by hand no matter what you get. It is just too much mass.

ON EDIT: This device was kind of flimsy. Good enough for the tow dolly, but I don't think it would take the tongue weight of a 4500 pound trailer.
