I have just looked in the PA website.
The interesting part is that many require reservations. You would think if they are trying to fill unused sites, that they would insist on drive up business for PA.
Do they ask for reservations so that they can refuse you without having to explain the number of empty sites in the park?
I just find it a strange requirement. Hotels will only give discounts for walk in customers.
No different really than airlines charging much more for last minute reservations. From the point of view of the park, someone showing up at the doorstep at dusk with a 40 foot long fifth wheel and a tired wife is going to pay whatever the rate is to not have to go back out on the road. There is really no reason to offer them a discount.
Greedy Westernrvparkowner has had the devil on his shoulder tell him to charge a premium for last minute arrivals, though the angel on the other shoulder has talked me down so far. For the record, we do not participate in Passport America. Competing on price is not and never will be an integral part of our marketing plans. We focus on quality, not cost.
So you would rather have a spot go empty and no revenue instead of having it filled at $10-$20 less than full price?
