We paid sales tax on what we paid difference on our prior "11" rv. How ever when they figured license fees they worked off of MSRP. About hit the floor when they told us $1350 for plates. It was purchased in "10" so the value stayed the same for the first two years rather than decline as normal. This was all in CO.
I heard of two cases where the owners just swap plates between a cheap utility trailer and their toy haulers to escape the fees. I wouldn't have the cojones to do that.
