I'm sure every state is different but here in Ky you get a notarized form from the dealer stating actual pice paid after any trade-in.
That's what you pay sales tax on-but the form clearly states any misrepresentation is subject to prosecution for Perjury.
You can also get a private party to sign the form, also subject to prosecution .
