paying for a new RV before delivery

I ordered a new travel trailer, paid $1,000 deposit, and am now being told I can't get it the day that I have to finish paying for it. They want me to come see it, pay the balance, then schedule a demonstration and pickup time. Is this arrangement common? The dealer is a big place in Orlando Florida that has been fine to work with so far. I'm not financing the Jayco that I'm buying. Thanks folks!!
  • Years ago I bought one with a personal check and I was out of state so they said it would take 5 days for the check to clear the bank. I kept back 10,000 and used a credit card after the PDI and my satisfaction. This last time, out of state again, I use a check from my line of credit because that only takes a few minutes to clear the bank.

I would not give them money before everything was to my satisfaction.
  • We are in the process of purchasing a new Sandpiper 360 PDEK and the dealer, 3 hours away, wanted to fed ex me the paperwork to sign before I picked it up. As others have said the answer was no. We are financing our new unit and my credit union sent me the check with specific instructions, they get check after a thorough PDI is done and everything is 100% and if they don't want to do business this way to walk and find another dealer. Once they have your money what is their incentive to make everything satisfactory to you.

x2. Make sure everything is checked and working.

And, congrats on your new (soon) Jayco.

    Enjoy your travels.
  • No way. Inspect it, do a thorough PDI, and have them fix any problems. THEN shell out the $$$. Remember, they want your money, so they have to do what you want.
  • 4 new trailers over the years...NEVER paid in full or signed the finals until after my inspection and the PDI.

The $1000 deposit is normal and should be the end of it.
  • There is NO way I would pay in full until the PDI is complete to YOUR satisfaction...
