His method is fine for making one cup at a time.
We like to brew a full pot of coffee. We use a large Bodum Stainless Steel French Press that's insulated. Works great. The thing about French presses is they ones you find in the stores are normally very small. You can get the big ones online.
Not sure why he refers to the "mess" created by a French Press; we simply add some water to it, swirl it around and dump it down the sink drain. Coffee grounds are a great natural deodorizer for the grey tank. No "mess" really other than just rinsing it out. Takes about 10 seconds if you're real slow.
