I have a pesky drip in my basement, it is coming from the black item in the picture below. I gave it a 1/8 turn and it has mostly stopped, however, would like to replace it...maybe something non plas...

Due to 'red' PEX pipe I suspect that is on the hot water system.
What is the pipe coming from or going to??
Look closely on black fitting---any directional arrows---indicating it is a 'check valve' which allows water to flow in only one direction.
Again.....what is piping coming from/to?? Water heater? Faucets? ????
