No, that is not what I am saying ( I don't know what the other guys are saying ).
Let's say your truck, with no trailer attached, has 3000 pounds on the steer axle.
Now you drop the trailer on there, with no WD. Now let's say, the front axle weighs 2600. You can see that you have "removed" 400 pounds. Not good.
You hook up the weight bars. The question is, how much load are you restoring to the steer axle ? My goal is to get the steer axle back to 3000 in this example. If I get 3100, I've gone too far.
Some manufacturers say you can get by with 50%. If that is the case, then, using the above example, you would have a goal of at least 2800.
For what it's worth, I found in my case ( my truck and trailer ) it seems to work best to get the front ( steer ) axle back to exactly what it's normal weight is.
