Pink scaly stuff in water tank

I have an oddly shaped water tank (5 inches high x 60 inches wide x 30 inches long) and I can see through the white plastic quite a lot of pink scaly stuff moving around with the water. What is this stuff ?

I've filled and drained a number of times but because this tank is so flat all that stuff won't come out. I guess I'll just have to drop the tank and put it on its side to get all that stuff out.

This RV is equipped with tank heaters so it's a good bet that they also put antifreeze in the fresh water tank. I removed the tank and got a whole pile of it out. Good to know that it's not a big deal if there is some still stuck in there though.

your grass is green and you are in Los angeles. You are in big trouble buddy! lol
  • X3 on possibly bacteria or mold. A heavy dose of sanitizer will never hurt....

Mold/algae can be pink. When was the last time you sanitized the system?

X2. Could be pink slime. Not a big deal, but sanitizing is needed.
  • Normal hard water scale can turn pink if part of the water run through it had excessive iron content, too. Only thing you can do is flush as much as you can out. If it's loose, that should be easy. If it's stuck to the sides of the tank, you are stuck with it. For what it is worth, no health effects, just looks scuzzy and possibly eventually choke up the tank requiring replacement.
  • It's probably normal hard water scale with pink antifreeze in it. Sanitize the system & don't worry about it.

You might also try tilting the RV enough that the drain is at the lowest end of the tank.
  • Sounds like someone put RV antifreeze in the fresh water tank, once upon a time.
  • Have you ever put RV antifreeze in the tank. Could be normal scale discolored by RV antifreeze.
