We are near Kingman,Az or a bit.We have looked around but not found what we want but did find California pricing on everything.Did the Cracker Barrel( no frosted mugs for root beer anymore and higher prices). Did the Golden Coral, lots of Chicken and chicken and chicken and mashed and fried potatoes and such. Most of the usual fast food places. I swear if I ever take another bit of a McDonals burger, I will croak. Found one little restaurant near a days inn California pricing small fare.A steak house now,no guns allowed, 24.00 for small cheap tough steak. But no Mom and Pops. Went to Bullhead City and Laughlin Nv. Not going to the casinos. Just the same typical chain out of the freezer into the fryer stuff. Same in Havasu CitySurely there are some good places in Western Az to eat. Where and who are they?

I feel your pain. We traveled in the western U.S. and sought out local mom and pop restaurants rather than the chains, if we wanted that we could have stayed home. We found some that were less than memorable but many we would go back to.

I feel your pain. I live in a place where folks wait for hours in line to get a new fast food burger or a greasy donut. The local places are out there - you just have to move off the highways more. You might try asking at a grocery store for some recommendations on local restaurants.

The mom and pop places are dying off replaced by fast food and chains. Some small towns still have restaurants that have home cooked food. On Wednesday's Romeo Riders pick a small town to ride to for lunch. Some are very good others mediocre.Where my seasonal is at there is a grocery store with a deli that still makes homemade food from fresh ingredients.

Triple D website has many cool spots. We actually ran into the Goldwing couple a few years back that had been to all of them at the time.

downhome, you mentioned Prescott in another post so don't know if this would apply but while in the Prescott area there is a small cafe down in Dewey just south of Prescott Valley that has very good food. It is the Blue Hills Cafe and offers all kinds of meals at great prices. We spent the summer in PV last year and enjoyed several meals at the Blue Hills.

Over the years, when I had time, I have asked utility or city workers where to eat lunch. But as the workers have got younger, they only know of the chains.
When wife and I first started to vacation together we decided to hunt for restaurants the locals used. If we had a good meal, next find another local. But if we got a meal we did not like, go to chain so we knew what we would get...
A lot of the mom and pop places the owners are getting older and retiring. The kids usually don't want anything to do with running the place, not a lot of money in it for a lot of work.

Reminds me of my first time in a small town in northern Alberta, I asked an elderly local where to get a good meal. He directed me to a hotel, it was the grungiest place I have ever eaten in and the food was sorta edible. Fortunately my digestive system didn't rebel. He had probably never eaten out in his life.:B

Not only that, but they've all discovered cheap bottles of hot liquid that they add to all foods, whereby you get NO chile Flavor, just lots of scoville hot units (burns your mouth and gets you some all-night heartburn).

Excellent BBQ in downtown Kingman, ask around and the locals will tell you where it's at. It's been a couple years since we've been there, but the food was great...........get some peach cobbler also!

We ate at the airport today. Quiet only four other customers. I had the fish sandwich fora change.Sandwiches were it. The Breakfast was better but it was 2:00.
Food, unremarkable but good setting and good service.
We had to go to VA ER in Prescott and didn't get a chance to look around.It is about 100 miles from here. They get more rain. Lots of greenery and some small lakes and nicer more upscale area.
We ill go to the Hot Rod Cafe in a day or two. the Lodge in the state park maybe later and check out the BBQ.

Surely there are some good places in Western Az to eat. Where and who are they?

I know the area well, and you are right. Been going there for years, and can't really think of a good place to eat in Bullhead; maybe a fancy restaurant in a Laughlin casino, but really nothing.
