Please recommend a good WD hitch

I own a DP which I leave stateside for our travels. Because it's down in the states, I need something for use in Alaska so I'm about to buy a 2006 Nash 26X trailer:

OAL of 28'5"
Two axles
Tires - ST238/80R16, load range E, load capacity of 3,520# ea
Dry weight - 5,800#
GVW - 10,800#
Net carrying capacity - 4,135#
Dry hitch weight - 900#
Loaded hitch weight - unknown at this time

I've towed a lot of trailers - two and four place enclosed snowmachine trailers, my 14,000# dump trailer, Bob Cat trailers and so on, but none of them have been travel trailers and none of them have used WD hitches. That aside, I'd like to get a good WD hitch - not the best or the most expensive one out there, just one that I can expect good performance from.

I'll be towing with a 2005 Ford 3/4T 4X4 CC long bed diesel pick-up truck on load range E, 17" tires.

The Ford factory receiver is rated at:
W/ WD 12,500# / 1,250#
Weight carrying 5,000# / 500#

Please let me know your thoughts or experiences with a "good" WD hitch.

That's my vote. Nothing against the other options, but I've had 12 trouble free years of use out of my Dual Cam system.
  • Another vote for Equalizer.

You can call them and talk to a tech right at the factory if you have any questions. I found them to be very helpful.

If you get one make sure to get the pads for the spring arms like these they keep the hitch nice and quiet.

Yes they should come with the hitch but they don't.

Good luck with whatever your choice is.
  • Reese Dual Cam, Reese SC, or the Equal-I-Zer 4 way system are all very good choices!!!

Both Reese models offer a little more fine tuning of the hitch head vs the Equal-I-Zer but you can't go wrong with any of them!
  • Equal-i-zer is good. I had a regular old style Reese for years, and had no problem with it too. But the Equal-i-zer does not require a separate friction sway bar as the sway control is built into the system... I recommend Equal-i-zer.
