Hi,I am looking to get my first 5th wheel in the near future and looking to get a 2017 Ford F350 to tow it. They now come with the factory 5th wheel prep package which I have heard called the puck system. I am looking to get a long bed to avoid having to have a sliding hitch. Can anyone recommend which hitches I should be considering? I don't know much about them, but I understand that not all hitches are created equal and I want to make an informed decision. I would rather pay a little more and be happy with my decision rather than save a couple hundred bucks for a lesser performing hitch.Another question is about the puck system itself. Does this allow for the hitch to be "easily" removed when not using it? Or is this still a bigger job than worth doing? thanks for your helpMatt

Curious as to why you think you have to have a long bed to avoid the slider, especially with the design of the front cap on the newer fifth wheels?

The B&W Companion for Ford OEM puck system is IMO, the best hitch option. It is lite weight, two pieces, easy in/out. A very solid, user friendly hitch. You will not be disappointed!Jerry

Good point in the long bed. Can I use a short bed and not have a slider without issues? I still probably will lean toward ling bed just for the cargo space. Seems that the hitch will leave little space in bed for much else. Especially if I leave the hutch in there all the time Matt

I use the B&W Companion with the puck system in our F350 SRW LB. Fiver has a MorRyde pin box. Great combination.

Bought Reese Elite slider for our Ford short bed puck system because B&W didn't make a slider for the pucks back in 2012. I believe that they do now. The slider mechanism has play that chucks on stop and start. Mostly fixed it with a Mor-Ryde but it is kind of annoying. The solid mount would be just fine, but I would try B&W if I was starting out again.

Yep just LOOK at how the head placement is on both hitches that WILL explain the Chucking many are reporting within the Curt.

Bought a 2017 F350 DRW on 10/30. Had a Curt in my old truck for 8/12 yrs. Bought a B&W Companion hitch for the new truck. Took our first trip at Thanksgiving. Chucking virtually disappeared with B&W. No issues at all hooking up or getting the hitch to release when unhooking. I did have occasional issues with both hooking up and unhooking with Curt. The Curt is a good hitch, but I am a B&W fan for life. Oh, one added benefit of the long bed is the 48 gallon tank on the 176" setup. I am very happy with the truck and hitch.

We like TrailerSaver hitches by Hensley. Great hitch and they make an adapter for the Ford system. I agree with the choice of long-bed.

I agree they are a nice setup but what I have works great with the trucks factory auto rear air ride plus the air bag hitch and fore and aft cushioning of the TriGlide.

One reason I would NOT buy one of their hitches is they don't work with the factory puck systems. Yes I know you can use an adapter, but for that money I should not have to.

Here is my B&W with AirRide. Honestly don't see it possible to be a "night and day difference" with what you have.

Its a night and day difference between a hard connection pinbox to a non movable hitch. Thats how I started out, then went with the 5th airborne pinbox and it worked great, then stumbled across a trailsaver air ride hitch I got for dirt cheap. Yes there is a difference in the ride - buy one and find out for yourself.
