- Grit_dogNavigator2.5" hitches can/are rated significantly higher than 2" hitches.
But fun fact, Frod's 3" hitch (the only mfg OE or aftermarket to offer a 3" square receiver, that I'm aware of), isn't rated any higher than the highest rated 2.5" hitches for tongue weight, which is the real world limiting factor. Straight pull is not the limiting factor.
Or in other words, the Ford 3" hitch is just for marketing/sales. (And making it more difficult/limited to find stingers/hitches that work in those trucks) - shades9323Explorer
