Hitch recommendation

I don't own one but have read on this and the airstream forum and have talked to a couple of owners. They are heavy which is an issue for some of us older campers. They are not always easy to hitch and unhitch on uneven ground. Those who use them and have used them for a long time say that the hitching is something learned and you get better with practice. I really do believe this but going in it will be a challenge.

Used a HA for a good while...Other than cost, I can't think of any downsides (at least in my use of it).

If you want a good hitch, there are plenty to choose from. It seems to me that Reese and Equalizer are at the top when it comes to companies that have been around a long time a have very dependable products.

I use the Equalizer and have done so for about 15 years now. Way back, a long time ago, the Reese hitches needed to be disconnected when backing. That and the fact that I didn't like snapping the chains into place steered me toward the Equalizer. It is a very easy hitch to hook up and has worked very well for me. Today, the Reese hitches are much better and are easy to use as well. It would be a coin flip for me today.

I am towing with a half ton and pull a trailer similar in weight to the one your brother is looking at. The Equalizer works for me.

I have a new equalizer system. purchased it for my TT and then went out and bought a 5th wheel.
brand new incl ball.
I do not think for the TT you have there is a need to go overboard. pulled my TT with the cheap round bar system for years. moved to equalizer because of tongue weight.

absolute best, I did 3 summers with my Propride before the upgrade to a 5er. Best towing experience you'll get but it comes dearly.

Previously I used a Reese DC with decent results towing a 29ft Bunkhouse with a GVWR of 7700lbs with an F150. We did around 12000miles with that setup and it was satisfactory - the next TT was bigger, longer and heavier, the Propride was necessary in my mind for that TT.

And the most expensive, which the original poster was not looking for...

Not necessarily the best most expensive but a good quality setup.

It is an integrated part of a WD system called Reese Straight Line these days but is still available as an add on to compatible WD hitches. You will need a 1k minimum tongue weight hitch.

We have a Blue Ox that works perfectly.

Easy to connect and you can backup with no issues.
