Poor, poor, pitiful me

There are many rewards in having five adult children (with spouses), eight grandchildren, and various elderly relatives but they can sure interfere with the RV'ing plans. The young ones keep graduating from this and that, getting married, and having babies. The older ones have major birthdays, and operations. I am truly thankful that we are all in good health and able to enjoy our times together but gosh darn it, I wanted to go to Alaska! Do I need a kick in the pants for being an ungrateful slob or will someone commiserate with me? lizzie

  • Take the trip of a lifetime to Alaska and enjoy it. Take lots of pictures and enjoy all that Alaska has to offer that you can afford to do. That's what we did in 2007 and never regretted it and the whole family thought it was wonderful and wished us the happiest trip ever. WE almost could see the longing in their eyes that we were not bringing them along. That's why all the pictures. Post a travel blog that they follow along at home. Enjoy!!!!!
  • I never understood why older folks dedicate their retirement to looking after their adult children's families.
They dedicated their adult lives to raising their families and working but refuse to do things they want later on.
Aren't you entitled to having a life for yourself?
BTW--I'm a geezer with no kids.
  • Take your trip and communicate with the celebrants via skype.
  • believe it or not, all those folks will have birthdays, weddings, etc. if you are there or in Alaska. It finely dawned on us that if we were going to ever have time for just us, we would need to for-go a few family celebrations.
Take the trip to Alaska, they will do just fine knowing that you are taking time for yourself.
  • Sometimes, "self" becomes more important. A good trip to Alaska for us was 3 months, including going and coming back. Surely you can indulge yourself for one summer.
  • Lizzie, you sound like you need some definite ME TIME. Ignore everyone & everything else and hit the road. Life happens, it is time to ignore it and make it happen your way.
