Your numbers appear to tell a different story than what you indicate.
The front axle decreased in weight when ready to camp tells me that the hitch is behind the axle rather than in front of the rear axle. The picture looks like it verifies this too. This could be a major contributor to the problem of ride comfort.
How are you making the determination that the hitch/pin is ahead of the axle? One way is if you have a 4x8 sheet of plywood - rest it against the side of the truck (connected or not) and align the sheet with the rear axle. Then determine if the hitch/pin is ahead or behind the line.
