This is the best solution. Most heating ducts today are the foil type of flex hose ducts. Easy enough to replace with new.
Besides, some varmint is going to find where the melt settled in the flex vent. And is going to chew a hole through to get it. Regardless of how well you try to clean it. You cannot get it all out. So you'll end up replacing it anyway.
