"Mouse proofing" is more than stuffing the hole with steel wool, checking for other holes, etc.
You need to try ALL the remedies on the various "anti-mouse" threads to deter the critters from entering.
IMO - you will *never* get all the entry points!
Moth balls may do it - but sure stink if you use them inside.
Try "Fresh Cab", peppermint oil, etc. - that can be used inside.
