Produce inspection California

It has to be general lack of education. They also probably have no clue the produce that's grown, and they eat coming from the Central Valley

The central valley in California is the richest agricultural region on earth. I don't blame the state for trying to protect it. Most people like eating and a substantial amount of the produce sold in America comes from California. And since almost all the travelers actually never come to a complete stop at the inspection station it really is not much of an issue.

I could note that licenses and restrictions are issued for most states' wildlife and game gathering but no need to point out the obvious.

Glad to see that some states try to protect our food supply.

I can and do poke good-natured fun at friends on the Pacific coast; been invited to snipe hunts followed by crockpotted meatballs simmering in grape jelly by Mid Westerners and accuse Southerners of speaking with mush mouths. I don't understand how anyone can profess a love of this country yet denigrate it's people and policies w/o a valid point:h.

It's amazing to be how narrow minded some on this board are. California regulations and SOME laws are ridiclous, but that doesn't mean the entire population lines up behind it. On the other hand, some people like to whine even when they have no clue.

That's what we're saying! The fruit we have on board that was bought in the Midwest and are now vacationing with in California where it was shipped from!

California is too crowded for me but I don't understand the constant bashing it receives. The landscapes are diverse and beautiful, San Francisco is a world class city in every sense of the term, the people are mostly very friendly, and the state contributes more to the nation's economy than any other state by a wide margin.

My only beef with Californians is too many of them are moving to the northwest. I only visit California for vacations or work trips. Return the favor, guys!

DW makes a list before getting to one of the Ca. inspection stations. Last year we got asked about firewood for the first time but they didn't want to inspect it and had barely stopped before we got waved through.

Crossing the Can/US border is a different matter. Got pulled aside a few weeks ago for a random inspection. They went through every single piece of firewood (all processed/sawn lumber) and found a tiny bit of bark on 2 pieces of kindling and got a stern warning. Funny thing was the wood was all from Wa. state. I also had 6 strawberries that I intended to eat before I got to the border but forgot about them. When asked about fruit, I told them about them and escaped a $500 fine. If you have Nexus and they find fruit you didn't declare, they can even take your Nexus away from you permanently. Seems like just about all of our fruit comes from the US but you can't take it back there. :(

Going through a Ca. inspection station is one of those interesting and uniquely Californian things and I don't mind them at all.

What i hate is every thread that starts with california, it ends with a regulation here, an inspection there, cant stop on this road, cant protect yourself, cant do this, cant do that. Im sure its beautiful, however for me and my money, I'll choose to travel to a state where i can actually do something that i want to do without having to aske permission first.

You californians, please stay there and keep your corrupt regulations away from my state, and in return, we wont waste our money on yours.

So, come to Montana. I would be willing to bet that you have nothing in your truck that will get you in trouble here (unless you carry an M-60 with you. You don't, do you?) the fishing is good, too.
Now that my son has packed up and moved to NV, I no longer have a need to go to CA. Thank you, son.
I never had a problem with the check stations, whether driving an RV or just a Jeep. Just drive up, stop, answer all the questions "No.", and drive on. Simple and easy.
Speaking of fishing, fishing in the ocean in Ca is kind of silly, really. If you are fishing from a man-made structure, no license is required. BUT, if you walk on the beach and toss a hook in the water, you best have a license. I'm sure they can give a perfectly logical reason for that, such regulations usually do have a reason, somehow.
