After reading these posts I am amazed that all these customers are the best negotiators and always get the best deals. I just cannot figure where they find these salesman that put up with the attitudes and verbage they come to the dealership with. All the poste made here seem to think all salesman are standing at the door, salivating that they will walk in. In 40 yrs. of sales, I found customers that approach with this attitude are much more trouble than they are worth. They will take up your time and very seldom purchase anything. Most of the replies come from posters that have not purchased a new RV or if they did, it was 10 yrs. ago. I found in my experience, avoiding the "know it all customers" is much better than wasting your time with them. And, yes. I was top salesman in my field many times. :S
I expect a dealer and it's sales staff to appreciate a business like approach. While I don't shy away from negotiation (I have negotiated much larger purchases and business deals that a motorhome or trailler) I prefer to use the Up or Down, Take it or Leave it Offer. And you can bet that if I approach you with that, it is a REAL offer. The offer will allow the dealer profit but get me the price I will pay. This is the way I bought my latest trailer, my truck and through the years many other vehicles.
I dont waste a sales persons time. If I am just looking I tell them so. And I expect them to GO AWAY and leave me alone. If I am going to Buy I tell them that and I give them a time frame and make it clear it will NOT be today. But I will buy.
I am not an EASY customer, the EASY customers pay too much. But I am fair and polite, firm and leave no doubt that I mean what I say. This saves everyone time, money and headaches.
But it is obvious why sales staffs would prefer to have the EASY customer. It leaves them in control and with more of the customers money left on the table when the deal is done.
