For my 20# propane tank (4.7 gallons US) I use a Grill Gauge. I don't know why it isn't offered for any other tank sizes, but it works like a charm. I use the external propane bottle via a Stay-A-While adapter 95% of the time. Even with the tank connected to the MH, I hook the Grill Gauge on it and lift it a couple of inches to find out how much is left in the tank.
