I had three propane tanks filled on the way to visit our son and his family. I put them in the back of my SUV. 20 minute trip total. 30 minutes later he went out to install the new car seats for my grandchildren and the car stunk of leaking propane. We pulled the tanks out carefully and could hear one leaking. :E Fortunately we are able to tighten the valve a little more and it stopped the leak. We checked it with soapy water. No harm no foul but.........

I thought that they had to have a fitting screwed into them to allow gas to flow? guess not.glad nothing bad happened.bumpy

Here in NJ you'd probably be billed for the response and sued by the gas station for loss of business. At least you made the news!

just want to give out a warning that tomorrow I will be driving on I-95 in VA with a propane tank in my Highlander, in case some of you want to change your travel plans.

I didn't get your ribbing about the seatbelt joke... cause I did have an old VW bug and seatbelts were an option back in the day. I forget what year they became mandatory... think it was '65.

It did have seatbelts. But more recently, I had an old '70 TA a few years ago and it had seatbelts for the front, but don't recall if the second bench had 'em. Scouts were more barebones than its big brother, but way more cool!

Just kidding about the seat belts. Yeah, had a lot of fun with the Scout. It was definitely a "go anywhere" vehicle! Towards the end, though, it had such a rust problem I couldn't even close the door without pieces flaking off.

It did have seatbelts. But more recently, I had an old '70 TA a few years ago and it had seatbelts for the front, but don't recall if the second bench had 'em. Scouts were more barebones than its big brother, but way more cool!

Did a 75 Travelall even have seat belts?? I had a 75 Scout and it was the most bare bones vehicles I've ever seen in my life!

Plus if your model RV does have a base shelf below it you will notice that the sides on the inside of that propane bay are always open.

My guess is ALL are installed that way for a reason. Like maybe not to have propane in an enclosed little bomb waiting to explode if it leaked?! :W

Back in the day when my dad had a Glen-L TT pulled by a '74 Travelall, we would get the propane bottles filled and put them in the way back of the truck and drive home with the tailgate window down. I think the exhaust of that truck getting sucked in was more harmful than any LP gas :B

We always took the tanks out as soon as we got home which most likely was done without our seatbelts fastened. :p
