I had lightning hit a power line near my house and do a lot of damage.
yep, I inquired from the electric company the possibility of "protection" and it would cost about $8.00 a month IIRC. but when I found out that it wouldn't protect against a surge coming though the ground, decided against it.
I did have a strike close to the house, lost a garage door opener, security system, controller on the heat pump, which were the big items.
also had a strike very close at a park in Austin. noticed when the electricity came back on, I was one of the few RVs that had full power.
