Never had 'surge protector' when just weekend camping as we always went to basically the same places.
But when we hit the road I purchased a PI 50A with High/Low Voltage trips, and the line checks because we would be in various CGs across the US.
It identified several Open Neutral issues, a reverse polarity issue and an Open Ground issue.
Also tripped on a High Voltage situation once.
Would have tripped on Low voltage a few times at different CGs but I place generator in service when voltage drops to 108V.....as that is MY low voltage limit.
For me it is a 'tool' and I prefer to buy a good tool once vs several cheap tools.
As for others........their RV their choice their monies. Doesn't affect me one iota
