I did misspeak on the ostrich analogy. It should be accepted risk. If you feel the risk is low outweighs the cost of protection. Others believe it's cheap protection. Same with a water pressure regulator. I carry a spare tire even though I have not had a flat on the last 10 vehicles I've owned.
