Nothing - short of not being there in the first place - will stop a direct hit or the inducement of current from a nearby strike, should you be that unlucky.
The EMS is intended to counter common unstable conditions at the pedestal, not to provide total protection from all possible electrical hazards and acts of nature.
Not all campgrounds are alike, and can be wired differently; each can have different impacts from sudden simultaneous loads from your fellow campers, problems with the park's electrical supply, and issues at the pedestal itself.
I consider an EMS to be as wise an investment as I do surge protectors and UPS systems - they don't protect against everything (lightning being the obvious exception), but they do protect against SOME things, and I don't want those particular things to impact me while I am camping.
