Protectant for plastic roof vent doors

We just got a new motorhome and I would like to know the best way to protect the plastic crank up roof vents that over time become faded and brittle. What is good to use and how often should you use it?

I recommend vent covers such as Maxx Air. You can leave the vents open during a rain storm and drive with the vents open. I agree with previous poster though....even the cheapest rv isn't cheap and they still come with cheap vents.

X5 or so, nice to not worry about rain coming with vent open!!

Cover with MaxAir II's or equivalent. At least you'll be covered when they finally break up. Lifetime warranted covers are available when you have to replace OE.

Just had this happen, all vent lids were covered with Maxx/Air vent covers and they still fell apart.
So I went with the unbreakable polycarbonate ones with the 5 year guarantee

We will see how that works out......
  • Cover them with a Maxx air, and you can use it in the rain, or while driving, or leave it open worry free while in storage. My 19 year old vent covers are still in great shape! I have 3 Fantastic fans and 3 maxx air covers.

  • installing good quality Maxxair White Vent Covers and applying 303 or Protect All in the spring and fall has worked well for us .... all three vent covers that were installed on our 5er back in late '05 still look good

303 Aerospace Protectant is what I use. Started using it in 1993 on everything. Never had to replace any of the plastic parts in 20 years of use.

    +1

  • You can define cheap in 2 ways; inexpensive to purchase or poor quality.
Sadly, the later seems to be the norm.

  • Replace with aluminum. Sadly we can spend 200K on an RV and get a cheaply engineered piece of plastic******regardless
