Protective Tape

Does that clear tape Cmpr Wld sell really work?...worth the $? We will be heading out again 3/1 from NH. This time FL,TX,AZ,CA,NV,UT and then maybe SD,MN and home. Last yr was 1st tvl trl trip, got to NM eventually and back by late May. What about Lovebugs?...when? Any other critters?..when?/where? Got a screen for the truck grill....think it will help? Nothing was tested last time out (thank you, Lord of Bugs). Does a really good wax job work as well? Peter

Agreed, there isn't a single one of us that knows for sure what the OP was referring too.

But JJ, what fun would that be? We would all have to go back to arguing about which toilet paper is best, which tires to use, or Walmart. LOL.

Spring cannot come fast enough. :B
  • Since the OP has been a member for year and has only posted 3 times, I seriously doubt if he will be back to see any of the replies but I'll add my two cents, just in case.

For the record, I went to Camping World on line and searched for "protective tape" and also "clear tape" and got "0" matches for both except for a "Bike Seat Protective Cover", and seriously doubt if that is what he is talking about. Any replies to this question would be, at best, a guess.

Love bugs and other critters??? That's a type of fly, isn't it? What about them....there are millions of other critters out there. Need to be a little more specific.

Does a wax job really help??? Help with what? Wax will provide a shine and a somewhat protective film to help guard against UV light. Will it make it easier to get dead bugs off the paint??? Possibly, I guess.

    Screen for truck grill?????

Sorry, reading minds is not one of my fortes so I'm no help here at all.

    Love Bugs

Running into a swarm is like hitting a snow storm - except snow melts and lovebugs just cling to everything. Count yourself lucky you haven't run into them.

As I mentioned above - I've seen vehicle overheating caused by them.

A protective screen can get clogged and cause overheating - but is easier to clean off than having to use high pressure water to wash the radiator fins from the engine side.

Lovebugs bodies can cause damage to paint on a vehicle. Modern paints and a good wax, or other protective coating - like the film mentioned - can prevent paint damage.

But can't prevent overheating and reduced vision.
  • I know someone who had the film applied to their new Lexus and you ahve to look hard to see the edge.

If the OP is thinking about applying tape to the front of his tow vehicle and trailer, I think the effort would not be worth the return. Plus I don't think it would look all that great.

Just for the record, I have good success using Rejex..
  • I don't have any idea about the "clear tape" stuff, but I do know that the screen to protect the radiator helps keep it somewhat bug free.
I attached mine behind the grill to the radiator its self.It doesn't seem to interfear with air flow .
  • I made my own screen it is the full width of the hood and goes behind and to the bottom of the bumper… it does wonders to protect the radiator grill and the lights… it is barely noticeable and catches a lot of bugs and debris… it is washed right along with the van so never is really dirty very long…

You can see in this picture how unnoticeable it is… it is made from a piece of fiberglass door screen, off a 48 inch wide roll…
