We bought a tow vehicle with one of these hitches and after we bought a trailer and hooked it up, we can't get it to unhook. We have tried EVERYTHING. We had a washer/dryervinstalled at Camping World in Rocklin, Ca. and they could not unhook it even though they sell the hitches there. We also called Pullrite and still got no answer. My husband decided to just pull the 2 bolts and lifted the plate/head to unhook. It is hanging from trailer pinbox. Any advice?

Well, it is a Sunday after all.Has he tried to unhook it now that the head is lose? That usually works for me when the king-pin has gotten pinched in the cauls.What usually happens is the truck rolls a little forward, or the trailer a little back, this puts pressure on the cauls and prevents pulling the handle.When this happens, try chocking the back of the trailer and slightly backing up. If that doesn't work I extend the landing gear just enough so that I can wiggle the head of the hitch around.If that doesn't work I remove the two pins that attach the head of the hitch to the body and lift the head up (using the landing gear of the trailer)I've never seen the king-pin bound so tight that will not work.

I have had that same issue on several ocasions, After several attempts to lessen the pressure, I usually end up removing the pins and lifting it from the truck.Once I moved the truck out of the way, I insert a screw driver into the bracket holding the kingpin while jiggling the handle and it slowly opens up to where I can slide the hitch off the plate.Not being familiar with the word caul, I looked it up and Miriam and Webster give a diffrent meaning.

Similar experience.1. Be sure truck and trailer are in straight line.2. Chock and back in to the trailer, holding some pressure on the hitch with brakes while pulling the lever.I've never had to pull the pins and get loose that way but a good option.Every year or so I pull the pins and lube the mechanism, using a pair of pliers to hit the release trigger and work the lube in. Spray lithium grease from NAPA.

We sometimes have to try a few things to get our super glide hitch to open. DH will have to put the truck in reverse, try the handle, then sometimes pull forward a little. Sometimes we don't have the front jacks at the right spot. We do know than when everything is correct, the handle will slip out easily. We've never had to remove the bolts, just sometimes it takes a lot of patience! Hitching up is a breeze though!

I have that same hitch and I have to back up a little to take the pressure off and I raise it only a 1/4" to 1/2" off the plate.
