Pumped Gas into my Diesel

I have many times attempted to put the diesel nozzle into my gas car and was stopped because the nozzle is too big. But I've never put the gas nozzle into my diesel truck (yet). I think I would simply stroke out if I ever did! (I'm pretty high strung under stress!)

Ummm, reread his post. You are making his point. He said ALL the nozzles are green. He didn't say the diesel nozzles are all green.

I have a true story that I'm almost afraid to admit. On Christmas day about seven or eight years ago, I had a potential emergency at a job site of mine. I told my wife that morning I was going to go and check on the job and I will be back before the Christmas gathering. Roads were icy that morning and I also needed fuel so I stopped at a BP gas station that was along the way ( I never have used a BP gas station before and my mind was definitely on the jobsite). About 10 miles down the road the truck starts jerking a little bit as if it were slipping on the ice a little bit, then a few miles later it was starting to pour out white smoke and running really rough and eventually by the time I got the job site short time later I couldn't get past second gear. At this point I'm thinking my fuel injectors are bad possibly as a buddy of mine had just recently replaced his and it sounded exactly like what was going on with his truck. Long story short, my wife ended up calling a flatbed for me and my truck and I took it home. I of course missed Christmas dinner as I was riding in a tow truck, and I was not a happy camper when I got home. The next morning we towed it to a family friend who has a auto repair shop and I proceeded to tell him what was going on with my truck. The first thing he did was to open my fuel cap and put his nose in there and then he said "you pumped gas in there" to which I said "that's BS, I remember grabbing the green handle" I didn't doubt what he was saying but at the same time I do remember grabbing the right handle at the gas station so I went back to the gas station and then my heart sank when I noticed that all the handles were green at the BP stations.

I was literally sick for the rest of the Christmas weekend as I do know it could be fatal to a diesel engine. When Monday morning rolled around things started to look up. Monday morning I called my insurance agent just in case there was a slim chance that insurance would cover it. He said "I never had a claim like this before, I will need to check into it and get back to you later this morning" In the meantime my mechanic called me back and said "I drained the tank, flushed the fuel lines, replace the fuel filter, change the oil, etc. and it seems to be running fine" a little while later my insurance agent calls back and says "this must be your lucky day, because if what you are telling me is accurate, it looks like we will cover the repair. But, if you knowingly pumped gas into it and continued to drive anyway, you are SOL"

At the end of the day, I drove that truck for another three years and 50,000 miles and never had an issue with the engine. I ended up calling my agent back and telling him it seems to be OK but let's not close this claim ticket yet as I don't know for sure if I am and out of the woods.

We still talk about that Christmas day, it was by far the worst Christmas of my life.

It was a BP, Green gas pump that did me in. All other stations around here are green or yellow for Diesel...........UGH!

Every fuel station I have ever been in around here has 4 buttons on the pump. the customer must push one of those buttons to get fuel.
One of them is Diesel.
the other three are 87, 89, and 91 octane gasoline.
In order to get gasoline, you must pick up the gasoline nozzle, then push one of the gasoline buttons.
The same goes for diesel, of course. You must pick up the diesel nozzle, then push the Diesel button.
I one grabs the Diesel nozzle and pushes one of the gas buttons, there will be no fuel flow, and vice versa.
Seems to me the only way to make a mistake around here would be to really try!

Put gas in my 99 Ford 7.3 with 80,000 miles by accident, started and made it about a block when I realized the mistake (green nozzle on regular). Had it towed 100 miles to home. Took a pump and pumped the tank out, put diesel in, changed fuel filters. Started it and it smoked and ran bad about 2 minutes, and has gone 350,000 miles with no issues.

I've actually run my lawnmower on diesel. The engine has to be warm and it won't idle but it will run. Picked up the wrong fuel can....

Years added gasoline to diesel to keep it from gelling, that was before ethanol gasoline which in my opinion ranks up there with PEMIX.

Was just watching a rerun of the old show EMERGENCY.... The one where they they fly out and visit another Fire Department and called "Most Dangerous Passage" as I recall.

Well.... You can watch.. NOTE: I am not sure it is quite as bad as they show on the Show, but... well.. One should know two things.

That reminds me of one of my own puckering rides home in a 1993 Chevy 6.5 diesel...it was probably the winter of 95/96, and I found myself terribly low on fuel in an unfamiliar area a bit after midnite. I couldn't even find an open gas station let alone diesel. I did find a small convenience store and walked out of there with all 10 quarts of ATF off the shelf and both jugs of corn oil.

Combined with the aproximately 5 gallons of diesel that was in the tank, this additional 5 gallons got me back into familiar area where I promptly filled up with diesel.
