Pushing from torsion axles

This is my first ownership of torsion axles. I have had a a few single axle leaf spring or coil springs before.
I notice with the torsion-bar-sprung pair of axles that the trailer seems to rebound after bumps and give me a little push. Is this the arching movement of the torsion axles doing this?
And, has anyone ever put shocks on torsion axles?

  • Our previous TT which we owned for ten years had had tandem torsion axils and I never noticed what you are experiencing. And they were capable of quite a bit of movement within their arc.

I sure wish our new TT had them rather than the conventional spring suspension. There is a lot more wear and tear and maintenance on the suspension components with the springs.

No, I never considered shocks along with the torsion axils. I do not know what effect they would have.
  • Got 2 trailers with torsion axles and can't say I've ever experienced what you think you're feeling. Plus they don't move much. That arc may give you about 1/16" of "push."
More than likely something with your towing/hitch setup that makes it buck a little.
