PVC roofs?

I'm looking at a '15 Open Range 310bhs. A PVC roof apparently is standard on their units. I didn't even know they used PVC for roofs. Does anybody have any input on these roofs? Pros/Cons. Thanks in advance.
  • I had a bad roof leak on my Tradewinds after a limb fell on it and they replaced it with a PVC roof and it's awesome. All I have to do to clean it is to sluice all the stuff off and mop it. They say that you don't have to recoat it with anything or wax it and it's really quite strong.
  • When I had a Jayco 2007 TT, I replaced a leaky TPO roof with PVC. It was the best material I have seen so far for a membrane roof. It didn't streak and was very comforting to see that quality of material on our TT roof.

It was about three years ago when we installed it (we have since traded the unit) and back then it ran about $100 per foot for material and installation.

If I ever needed to replace a TPO or EPDM roof, PVC is hands down the material I would use for a replacement- and it would also be ideal if purchased on a new unit.
  • TOP is in the PVC family. Back in 07 there was a problem with both the manufacture and application of TPO. The felt backing was applied too wide by the mfgr and when applied slightly askew it allowed water to be wicked up into the substrate rotting the roof. Most current TPO has no backing. It was not the actual TPO material that was the problem, Jayco, KZ and others had the same problem. My roof rotted and KZ replaced the entire roof and repaired the resulting wall delam free of charge....of which they said Alpha would pay 60% of the bill. Jayco did the same for many customers. I don't think I will ever buy a rig with an EPDM roof again but won't think twice with TPO or the other PVC roofs. PVC resists tears better and is easier to repair as the material is actually fused during the repair. PVC also leaves fewer black streaks. BTW TPO has been in use much longer than EPDM in commercial applications.
