RV's are not the only big ticket quality problem. I wonder what materials quality and workmanship quality is going into home construction nowadays? For instance, is there a plumber left in the U.S. that even remembers how to install all copper sewer drains? Nope ... because no one would pay for it since most folks consider good enough as good enough instead of high quality as good enough.
In home construction, a lot of what's newer is driven by labor costs. As workers become more specialized, the cost per man hour rises. Most of the cost of a new residence is not so much even about size anymore, as it once was. It is the price of what's installed within the frame that pushes costs up. I imagine that HPL is still used for counter tops in some areas but around here it's all about stone and even fossil counter tops. Tell me what the price difference is between HPL and digging up a fossilized, treated sandstone and the installation costs.
I'm on the same page as most about RV quality, they make what sells. Any shortcuts that can be used are the choice de rigueur. There is also the weight to accommodations at work. Folks want all the amenities but want to pull it with an SUV. Something has to come out of the structure.
